Day 1: Departure

ARRIVE MUMBAI:

Namah Shivay, smile you are in India

Arrive Mumbai by flight. Welcome to India- a country where hospitality is a way of life; to a culture steeped in tradition, a land where history lives in music and dance. You will be received at the airport in a traditional manner with garlands and proceed to your hotel. Mumbai once used to be a cluster of seven islands of Colaba, Mumbai, Mazagaon, Old Woman’s Island, Wadala, Mahim, Parel, and Matunga Sion, which were the homes of the Koli fishing community. Situated on the western coast, it became an important trading center and port city after the English King Charles the Second gave it to the East India Company in 1668. The islands were named ‘Bombay’, meaning ‘good bay’ in Portuguese, by the Portuguese. In 1996, it was officially renamed Mumbai, the name being derived Mumbadevi, the goddess of the Kolis. Overnight stay in the hotel in Mumbai.

Day 2

FULL DAY MUMBAI CITY:

The morning after breakfast excursion to Elephanta Caves ( closed on Monday) en route visit Gateway of India. The Gateway of India is a treasured monument that was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary for the Delhi Durbar in 1911. It is complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone.

9 nautical miles across the sea from the Gateway of India lay Elephanta, also known as ‘Gharapuri’. Visit this green island for the wonders of the 7th century, the painstakingly hewn rock-cut cave temple, dedicated to Shiva. The Maheshamurti panel in which Shiva is shown as a creator, protector, and destroyer, is a sight that should be enjoyed at least once in a lifetime.

Come back from the Elephanta caves and proceed for lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon drive past a popular seafront, Marine Drive is a winding stretch of road with tall buildings on one side and sea on the other. It was once called the Queen’s Necklace because of its curved shape. Tours continue with the visit to Mani Bhawan & Hanging gardens. Mani Bhawan used to be the Mumbai residence of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the important places to visit in Mumbai. It has a reference library with over 2000 books and other of the Mahatma’s belongings. The Hanging Gardens or Ferozeshah Mehta Garden and Kamla Nehru Park are located opposite each other. Both the gardens provide lovely sunset views over the Arabian Sea. The latter has the famous “Old Woman’s Shoe” that is a delight to all children.

Also, visit Dhobi Ghat – A unique feature of Mumbai, the dhobi is a traditional laundryman, who will collect your dirty linen, wash it, and return it neatly pressed to your doorstep. The clothes are soaked in sudsy water, thrashed on the flogging stones, then tossed into huge vats of boiling starch and hung out to dry. Next, they are ironed and piled into neat bundles.

Dinner at hotel Overnight in Mumbai.

Day 3

: MUMBAI – NASHIK(Approx. 165 Km / 4 ½ hrs drive).

The morning after breakfast drive to Nashik

Upon arrival check in at Sula Vineyard stay at Beyond the Sula OR Source of sula.

The Story of Sula wines:

Owner Rajeev Samant’s introduction to wines took place during his early years studying at Stanford University and working at Oracle in California, neither grapes nor wine were at the top of his mind when he returned to India in the early 90s. A chance visit to his family’s land in Nasik – a region well-known for growing table grapes – in 1994 led to the seed of an idea, and before he knew it, he began pursuing the idea of growing wine grapes in Nashik. His curiosity piqued, Samant spent three months at a small winery in California that belonged to his friend and mentor – and now Sula’s Master Winemaker – Kerry Damskey. Working on the frontlines of wine production gave him an inside look into the world of wines and what it would take to set up a successful business.

In 1999, Rajeev Samant established Sula Vineyards, Nashik’s first winery and paved the way for the emergence of India’s Wine Capital, with almost 35 other wineries the following suit in the region over the next decade. The name “Sula” came from his mother’s name – “Sulabha” – and symbolized the rich, Indian heritage of his wines. This was a wine that took pride in being Indian, being the first company in the country to use an Indian logo. Today, Sula is India’s leading wine company and is leading the charge of Indian wine across the wine world.

Deeply influenced by his travels and his personal values, Rajeev Samant firmly believes in being a steward of the land and in sustainable business practices. Under his guidance, Sula is one of the most eco-friendly companies in India, with a significant amount of its resources committed to sustainable winemaking practices and ensuring fair livelihoods for Sula’s community of farmers across Maharashtra and Karnataka. A large number of Sula’s workers come from disadvantaged communities and have seen a significant change in their standard of living through their employment with the company; this has been nothing short of a revolution in the surrounding villages.

Samant is also a leading advocate for India’s wine industry and is actively sought out to represent the interests of India’s wine producers and farmers to national and state Governments.
